Dale Earnhardt Jr. is reported to be resting comfortably at his home in North Carolina and plans to race in the "Siemens 300" from the New Hampshire International on Sunday (7/25/04 on TNT @ 2:00PM). Since NASCAR doesn't have a substitute drive rule, Dale will have to start the race to stay in contention for the points.  DEI will have Martin Truex, Jr. ready, if Dale Jr. can't finish the race finish the race. Both Budweiser & DEI won't prevent Dale from driving in non-Nextel races but DEI said that participation in future extracurricular races may be analyzed more closely.

GREEN/WHITE/CHECKERS Rule Change
In an attempt to create more excitement for the fans with less races ending under caution.  Starting this week at the New Hampshire International NASCAR will institute a green/white/checkers rule if a caution flag comes out with three laps to go, the cars will pick up the pace car and run under caution until the track is cleared, a green flag will then be thrown, in effect creating a two lap lap shoot out.  This rules change differs from the one used in the Craftsman Truck Series in that it will only happen once.  If another caution comes out, the race will end under caution.  Also if the leader has already taken the white flag the rule will not apply.  This rule will apply to all three NASCAR series.

While attempting to create a more exciting finish for the fans, reaction from the drivers is mixed.  Fuel mileage teams Hendrick are will have to rethink there strategies in that this rule may extend the distance of the race (i.e. at a track like Talladega running 5 laps x 2.66 miles under caution would add 13 miles to the total race distance).  Other drivers, including Rusty Wallace, Matt Kenseth & Kenny Schrader, have expressed concerns over the big wreck that could occur when the Green is thrown.  Lastly whenever NASCAR changes a rule which it seems to do an weekly basis lately, there is always confusion that results from the change.

OK, we know you've missed it so here is quick NASCAR Trivia question for you: Which driver who is currently 5th on the list of drivers with most the most starts will be making his 800th start at The New Hampshire International on Sunday?

PS If you haven't been down to the store lately we've added sports collectibles and other new items to our stock.  So stop down check them out.  Also we've been adding more novelty items and assorted non Nascar diecasts to our site.
